Crazy Week!
December 11th, 2007 | by aaron |With fantasy playoffs beginning week 14 was a crazy week in the NFL and for fantasy football alike. Owens was shut down, Peterson played so poorly that I thought he was injured, and multiple running backs have finally picked up steam. Unfortunate things happen in the NFL and remember, timing is everything. If you have a great team that has one bad game in the playoffs, oh well, there’s no crying in fantasy football.
While some owners are scratching their heads wondering how and why they didn’t make the playoffs, others found more reasons to “hate the Cowboys”, and the rest are devising a draft strategy for next season. However, most are continuing their NFL experience by participating in DraftMix.com freerolls and cash tournaments.
For the week I played in a total of seven cash competitions and four free-rolls and had one of my best weeks to date by winning four leagues and placing second in another.
My best performance for the week came in the Tuesday Night Freeroll where I scored a total of 152.28 points in a twelve man league. That’s an incredible score for the amount of players involved, but when you draft players like Moss, Ryan Grant, Hasselbeck, and the Green Bay defense then sure it’s easy to score tons of points.
I also had another decent draft in the Tuesday Night Cash Added tournament when I got excellent performances out of LaDainian Tomlinson, Brian Westbrook, and once again the Green Bay defense. However, I found myself going into Monday night down 23.26 points with Drew Brees left to play. Luckily, Brees covered that deficit in the first half and finished the game with 31.02 points while giving me my second win for the week.
I also played in two 1 on 1 competitions and split. But, listen to this… I had Reggie Wayne and a twelve point deficit to make-up in one of them. In the other, he had Reggie Wayne and needed to make up 30. Perfect situation! Highly unlikely that Wayne will go off for 30, but very likely that he will go for more than twelve. He finished with ten.
I had two other competitions that had Monday Night implications and this is where it got interesting. Each of the two competitions were four-man leagues and in one of the leagues I needed to make up 6.74 points with Roddy White. I’ll tell you what, it sounded safe with Roddy, but with Atlanta struggling to keep their QB’s healthy and the fact that Chris Redman is a third stringer, there was never a guarantee. Thankfully, Roddy got it done in early in the first quarter on a thirty-three yard touchdown reception. One down, but this was just the beginning. In the other four-man league I had less than a one point lead with Roddy White going up against my closest opponent who had Marques Colston. Now think about, earlier I mentioned having Brees in one of my leagues and I needed to make-up a 23 point deficit. I also needed Roddy White to score seven points in another league, and I need White to outscore Colston in a league, but I had Brees in another and Colston is Brees’ main target. My head was spinning at this point. Now could I ask for a better situation than New Orleans blowing out Atlanta with over eight minutes left in the third? Atlanta down big, Roddy White finishes the first half with 79 yards and a touchdown, and Atlanta having to only pass to make up that huge deficit. Not to mention, chances of New Orleans continuing to throw was unlikely unless it was a third down play. Colston was no longer a factor, he’d done his damage and White at this point is freerollin. Roddy finished the game with the same numbers he had in the first half and Colston delivered with 21.20 points, giving me a second place finish.
Crazy week! This week I am already in 6 leagues and naturally I like all of my teams so lets see if I can repeat my performances from Week 14.
