“The Gospel” Fantasy Playoff “Tweeners”

December 6th, 2007 | by aaron |

Its nice when we can get 31-40 point performances out of our studs, but as we all know in leagues where you are starting at least 9 players, if each player averages only 15 points per game, you should never lose. There is no better time than now to adhere to “The Gospel” series. Its playoff time, some owners get a bye, but the majority are playing for their fantasy football lives this week and making any type of mistake would be costly. Who wants to kick themselves for the next 9 months knowing that they could’ve done something differently and didn’t for whatever reasons? If playing the obvious players goes wrong this week those are decisions that you should be willing to live with, but making the tough decisions on which players to start or sit should be something that you should be willing die with.

Lets forget about the Brady’s, Owens, and Manning’s of the league and focus on the “tweeners”, the players we should avoid and the one’s we should without question, start.

Should you start….

Steve Smith: Why not? Smith hasn’t scored a touchdown since before Carolina’s bye week (week 7). I’m sure you all want to bench him, but he’s Steve Smith and boy would you hate yourselves if he goes off in a game where you would’ve won. This game could very easily be an upset for Jacksonville.
Projected Points: 16

David Garrard: Most definitely! Despite posting three consecutive fantasy games with over 17 points Garrard is a “tweener”because of his lack of big game ability. However, he has not had a game under 15 points this season and if consistency is what you need this week, Garrard is the man.
Projected Points: 18

Jon Kitna: Sure! Kitna is playing a Cowboys team that allows 216 ypg and have given up a total of 16 touchdown passes on the season. Detroit always plays Dallas tough and if they don’t, they’ll be far enough behind that they will have to “air it out”.
Projected Points: 20

Calvin Johnson: Absolutely, Roy Williams is out and CJ2 is now the go to receiver. Just like any other NFL franchise, Detroit is a different team at home.
Projected Points: 14

Lee Evans: You better! Evans has consistently produced in the month of December and facing the leagues worst team he should continue this trend. Did you know that Miami ranks third in pass defense, but have given up 17 touchdown passes? Ignore that stat and expect a good game out of Evans.
Projected Points: 15

Amani Toomer: Yes, Burress is ailing and no matter what the records indicate the NFC East match-up is always a good rivalry game.
Projected Points: 12

Donald Driver: Why wouldn’t you? Driver is a “tweener” because of his inability to find the endzone and the fact that he’s playing a solid pass defense. However, he is gaining yards and to think that he won’t score a touchdown for the remainder of the season is absurd.
Projected Points: 14

Chris Brown: For sure! Tennessee has to move the ball somehow and Lendale White is sidelined this week. At home against the Chargers Vince Young will have someone in his face all day.
Projected Points: 12

Adrian Peterson: You can! Considering Cedric Benson is out and the fact that Peterson is a good back. Not to mention, he’s playing against an emotionally drained defense.
Projected Points: 16

Chris Henry: Sure! Henry hasn’t caught a touchdown since his 2nd game back from suspension in a loss to Arizona. Henry is a touchdown machine and remember you only need one good game.
Projected Points: 14

Dwayne Bowe: If you need to! Let’s just face the fact that Bowe is a “tweener”, unless you’re weak at the receiver position. However, he hasn’t played well in three weeks and Denver gives up a lot defensively.
Projected Points: 13+

Kolby Smith: I would! If you didn’t notice Kolby Smith recorded 27 fantasy points during week 12 in a losing effort to the Oakland Raiders. He was shut down last week against a tough San Diego defense, but looks to rebound against a soft Denver run defense.
Projected Points: 17

Fred Jackson: He’s the man now in Buffalo and is proving why backups are such a vital part to any NFL franchise. Not that he has a day off, but Jackson is at home against the Dolphins and should see the bulk of the carries while Marshawn Lynch remains sidelined with a high ankle sprain.
Projected Points: 15
