“The Gospel” Week 10 Running Backs
November 7th, 2007 | by aaron |How do you write anything about Running Backs without mentioning Adrian Peterson’s record breaking performance in the same game against the supposed best at his position, LaDainian Tomlinson. If you don’t mind me saying, it was a reality check for Tomlinson and an unintentional slap in the face by Peterson, proving why he’s in the same class as elite runners. This week should be interesting to see how each player responds.
This “Gospel” series is not all about AP or Tomlinson, there are other great runners who are sure 1st round picks in all cash competitions and every week standouts in season leagues.
Here’s a look at the weeks top Running Back performers.
LaDainian Tomlinson: It’s time for the Chargers to announce their plays by telling defenses that they are running left or running right. Maybe that’s what they’re doing because opponents are shutting L.T. down. Who knows, but again he was shut down in Minnesota. This week L.T. will recover at home against Indianapolis because the Colts main run stopper (Bob Sanders) is banged up. Even with him, L.T. would have a big game.
Projected Points: 25
Joseph Addai: Addai is the best amongst running backs this season and even though he won’t post Peterson type numbers, Addai will exploit the weaknesses within the Chargers defense.
Projected Points: 23
Reggie Bush: Maybe Bush is proving that he can play the feature back role. At home against the Rams he will definitely continue that trend.
Projected Points: 22
Willis McGahee: Once again Cincinnati can’t stop the run or the pass and McGahee brings each of these attributes to the field. Look for a big game out of McGahee.
Projected Points: 21
Adrian Peterson: I’m still not willing to put AP at the top of the running back list. He’s good and may be a top two back this season, but he plays in Green Bay against a defense that only allows a modest 93 yards per game.
Projected Points: 19
Willie Parker: Parker against the Browns is like me against a bunch of grade schoolers. In his first meeting this season Parker managed 109 yards and this week he’ll match that and score at least one touchdown.
Projected Points: 18
Marshawn Lynch: Any other season Lynch would definitely be the rookie of the year. At Miami this week the Bills offense will dominate, make things look easy and Lynch will be a huge factor in this game.
Projected Points: 18
Clinton Portis: Portis finally posted a 20+ point performance last week in New York. Even though Philly is sixth in rushing defense, they are not playing good football evidenced by their 38-17 blowout loss to Dallas where they yielded 2 rushing touchdowns.
Projected Points: 17
Brian Westbrook: The only bright spot within this struggling Philly offense is Westbrook. Look for Westbrook to remain consistently good and post his usual numbers.
Projected Points: 17
Lendale White: Jacksonville just lost their primary run stopper Marcus Stroud. What does that mean for Lendale? Big game on an already potent run offense.
Projected Points: 16
Marion Barber: Running Back by committee does not apply with Barber. He finds the endzone, he catches balls out of the backfield, and he runs with authority.
Projected Points: 15
Kevin Jones: Jones didn’t find his way onto this list last week and for good reason. He posted a meager 7 fantasy points against a run defense that ranks dead last. However, this week the Lions will need Jones to produce on the road in Arizona which ranks 18th.
Projected Points: 14
Steven Jackson: The Rams have too much pride to lie down and let teams dictate what they do offensively. If Jackson is 100% he will play a game that will rank up there with the leaders on this list. If not he stays here at the bottom.
Projected Points: 14
