“The Gospel” Week 9 Wide Receivers
November 2nd, 2007 | by aaron |As we all know wide receivers are somewhat inconsistent at times and in most cases they always seem like a hit or miss situation. However, this is the position that will win games, create insurmountable margins, and make it next to impossible for your opponent to close the gap.
In weekly cash competitions running backs lose their value because you only play them for one week and you don’t have to worry about injury as much. On the other hand, drafting great wide-outs with favorable match-ups is mandatory because it’s the deepest position on your roster with a total of three starters.
Here’s a look at Week 9’s top receivers.
Randy Moss: I don’t see how any team (especially in a big game) will stop Randy Moss. Welker may lead in receptions, but Moss will lead in fantasy production.
Projected Points: 24
Reggie Wayne: No matter how you look at this game Indy will throw the ball effectively. Wayne is one of the many weapons in Indy and Manning’s favorite target as of late.
Projected Points: 21
Anquan Boldin: Now that he’s healthy we can go back to expecting big things out of Boldin. A possession receiver with big play ability and big play games. Tampa doesn’t give much in the passing game but they have to worry about Boldin’s other half, Fitzgerald.
Projected Points: 19
Brandon Marshall: Playing a Detroit team that’s allowed 13 touchdown receptions and Cutler’s only real target.
Projected Points: 19
T.J. Houshmanzadeh: Housh is the only bright spot and consistent player within this Bengals organization and even though he faces a couple of physical corners in Buffalo, Housh will manage to get his.
Projected Points: 18
Joey Galloway: Galloway has three games this season in double digit fantasy points. In each game following Galloway’s has managed just 4 points. Coming off of a loss and the fact that Arizona has given up on average at least one touchdown per game, Galloway will have a decent outing.
Projected Points: 17
Ronald Curry: When you consider that the Raiders are at home, Culpepper feels the pressure, and Houston has allowed 11 touchdown receptions on the season, you have to love the Ronald Curry play.
Projected Points: 16
Chad Johnson: Johnson must take that bullseye off of his back. There is not a defensive back in this world that wants a trash talking wide-out backing up his words. Hopefully this is the week that Johnson shuts up and produces some points in Buffalo.
Projected Points: 16
Braylon Edwards: Seattle ranks right in the middle in receiving yards allowed and have only yielded 5 receiving touchdowns. Edwards may have a long day and Derek Anderson may be forced to look elsewhere. However, I still envision one touchdown and at least 90 receiving yards.
Projected Points: 15
Wes Welker: Over the past three weeks Welker has averaged 21 fantasy points per game, but it’s not like New England’s opponents were worthy opponents. Expect some fall off, but Welker will managed an above average game from fantasy receivers.
Projected Points: 15
Hines Ward: This is such a tough rivalry game for both Pittsburgh and Baltimore that Ward is somewhat of a risk and a later round draft choice. Most people would even consider him a WR3 option this week. However, I see things differently, Roethlisberger is not the same QB as last season and with the emergence of H. Miller and Holmes, Ward will be open quite a bit. Not to mention, he loves going over the middle.
Projected Points: 14
Roy Williams: Absent! That’s the word we would use to describe Williams over the past couple of weeks. However, Detroit can’t continue to fool people with thoughts of being a running team. They’re just rocking us all to sleep and Williams will open things up this week.
Projected Points: 14
Steve Smith: Smith has low games of one, three, and one point this season and a high game of 33 points. Vinny is out and Carr is back taking snaps. Almost a crap shoot here, but how could you ever sit or leave Smith on the draft board? You can’t and when you consider the fact that the Titans allow 230 receiving yards and one touchdown per game, you would have to believe that Smith will be a big part of Carolina’s production.
Projected Points: 13
Terrell Owens: I don’t think they like T.O. very much in Philly. In two games last season Owens managed only 68 yards and one touchdown versus his old teammates. What will change this season? Owens remains in the top 10 fantasy receivers but that’s not good enough heading into Philly.
Projected Points: 13
Kevin Curtis: I think most people would crucify me if Curtis was not on this list. He shouldn’t be if Brown doesn’t play, but he will produce some fantasy points.
Projected Points: 10
