“The Gospel” Week 8 Wide Receivers

October 26th, 2007 | by aaron |

I played in “The Blogger Challenge” last night and wanted to wait to release wide-receivers after the competition just in case the other owners read this and agreed. However, they didn’t need to because they did just fine by themselves.
This is the position that will continue to win games and lead the way in all cash competitions. When you consider the fact that most leagues start 3 wide receivers, 2 running backs and only one quarterback, it’s pretty self-explanatory why depth at this position is indispensable. If you’re at the back-end of a draft there is no reason why you shouldn’t get two of these top receivers.

Here’s a look at this weeks top 14 receivers and the type of impact you should expect in Week 8 of the NFL season.

1. Randy Moss: Ironically Moss only had 4 touches last week but when two of them combine for 85 yards and two scores it makes sense how he lead all receivers in fantasy points. New England does not have a problem running up points and Moss will once again find his way into the endzone.
Projected Points: 22

2. Plaxico Burress: Playing in London this week expect an offensive shootout on at least the Giants’ side of the ball. Burress went without an end zone appearance last week but don’t panic Burress will not go two weeks in a row without a score.
Projected Points: 20

3. Braylon Edwards: I ranked Derek Anderson as the #3 quarterback this week. What does that mean? Edwards finishes with 2 scores against a miserable Rams defense.
Projected Points: 19

4. T.J. Houshmanzedah: With the exception of Randy Moss, T.J. has maintained a decent level of consistency through the first seven weeks of the season. This week should be no different at home against the Steelers.
Projected Points: 18

5. Reggie Wayne: Wayne is coming off of a MNF game where he caught 9 balls for 131 yards without a touchdown. He will find paydirt on the road this week in Carolina.
Projected Points: 18

6. Chad Johnson: In two games last season against the Steelers Johnson only managed 5 catches for 64 yards. Do you think there’s a little motivation for Chad to redeem himself? Look for a much more productive day from Chad and a point total in the high teens.
Projected Points: 17

7. Steve Smith: Something tells me that the Panthers will be playing from behind this week and if not, they have a lead due to Smith scoring a couple touchdowns. Either way it goes the Panthers find a way to get Smith the ball.
Projected Points: 17

8. Wes Welker: How can I argue the fact that Brady will throw at least 3 touchdowns and if he doesn’t, he will throw for four. Welker has been a huge part of Brady’s success and I expect that trend to continue.
Projected Points: 16

9. Torry Holt: Things are beginning to change in St. Louis. They have S. Jackson back, Bulger is getting healthy, and they play the Browns who have given up 17 touchdown receptions and rank 28th in total pass defense.
Projected Points: 16

10. Chris Chambers: Perhaps the Chargers have found their answer in Chambers at the wide-out position. Rivers has shown promise this season but he’s been somewhat inconsistent. Having two weeks to prepare after the trade from Miami timing should not be an issue for either player.
Projected Points: 14

11. Muhsin Muhammed: In two out of the four games Griese has started this season Muhammed managed 10 and 13 fantasy points respectively. Detroit ranks 30th in the league in passing yards allowed and have given up a total of 12 touchdowns in only six games.
Projected Points: 14

12. Roy Williams: Williams is coming off one of his worst games of the season in week 7. Playing from behind during most of this game in Chicago Williams will have plenty of opportunities to touch the ball.
Projected Points: 13

13. Hines Ward/Santonio Holmes: These two receivers will post similar type numbers against a Cincinnati defense which ranks 28th against the pass while allowing 16 touchdown receptions in only six games. Those are two ridiculous numbers and Holmes, Ward, and Roethlisberger will continue to punish the Bengals defensive backs.
Combined Total: Infinity
