Fantasy Game of the Week: Jets at Bengals

The Fantasy Game of the Week for Week 7 is an interesting match-up between the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, I know it sounds strange that these two teams could be included in any type of “Game of the Week” with a combined record of a miserable 2-9 – Jets (1-5), Bengals (1-4). However, when you consider that both teams’ defenses are allowing an overwhelming 31 points per game, then you can only imagine what type of track meet this has the capability of becoming.

In the middle of writing this, I decided to check the Vegas over/under total, and by no surprise to me, this game has a predicted point total of 47 points – good enough for second this week behind the Pats/Dolphins total of 51. The determining factor in deciding this is the Game of the Week is the amount of fantasy players included in the Bengals/Jets game. Sure, the Pats will probably score the most points and that game could very easily go over 51 points, however, it holds no weight when New England scores 45 and Miami only scores a touchdown and possibly converts a drive into a field goal (if they’re lucky enough). When I evaluate these types of match-ups, they don’t have to have the highest point totals, but they do have to possess what I believe will become the highest point totals of the week with multiple players as weekly fantasy producers. The Bengals and Jets have just that, and even though the Jets average a modest 17 points per week, let’s not forget that the three games in which the Jets scored under seventeen were against defensive powerhouses New England, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Expect that number to disappear before the end of the first half this week.
