“The Gospel” Week 2 Running Backs
September 13th, 2007 | by aaron |More “Gospel” today in regards to which running backs are likely to shine, others who are overvalued, and a few others not getting the respect they deserve that you can definitely count on this week.
In this series I am using the Bruno Boys’ predictions to arrive at my own conclusions. For more running back analysis check out the Bruno Boys where all of their predictions I agree with.
Value Bets!
Shaun Alexander: I don’t mind the Bruno Boys ranking Alexander first, but this Arizona defense shut down Frank Gore last week. I’m predicting an Arizona win at home and Alexander will have a good game, but not twenty-six points? Low twenties!
Travis Henry: This is where I made a mistake last week. Henry proved that he will succeed in this Denver offense. However, Henry will not find pay dirt this week and his predicted 24 points will be more likely be 17 against this Raiders defense.
Willie Parker: Multiple yards rushing and receiving along with a touchdown or two. Bruno Boys’ 21 point prediction is right on this week with Parker.
Steven Jackson: Flys over the predicted 20 points this week with a game in the mid to high twenties.
Don’t Count On It!
Reggie Bush: Twenty points is all well and good, but Bush has to prove that he is a viable back in the NFL. Don’t count on it, Bush is more likely to find a maximum of 8-12 points this week.
Adrian Peterson: Definitely looked like a rookie MVP candidate last week, but I just don’t see a repeat in week two. I’ve been a believer in Peterson from day one, but his projected point total of 20 will fall well below that number.
Maurice Jones-Drew: If Jones-Drew finds 19 points this week it will be on Madden 2008. Sure he received more carries than Taylor last week, but for now teams will force Garrard to beat them.
Clinton Portis: If Portis can score 17 on Philly I will have a new respect for his return as a top runner in this league. Thirteen points is good enough to be a starter so expect that number.
Derrick Ward: Even if Eli is cleared to play don’t expect Ward to produce the proposed 17 points. I’ll tell you this…I would wait another week to play him unless you absolutely need him.
Don’t count out!
Willis McGahee: Don’t worry McGahee knows his role on this Ravens offense. Therefore, do not be surprised when he goes off for low twenties this week.
Edgerrin James: James’ showing in S.F. on Monday night was not a fluke. If there is one player I regret not getting on any of my fantasy teams, it’s James. He’s baaack! Look for the same produtivity this week.
Laurence Maroney: The Chargers defense will have to pay attention to something this week. Is it the run game or the pass game? More than likely they’ll be focused on Brady and his arsenal of weapons. Maroney will see more than 9 and likely hit the mid to high teens.

I wouldn’t put too much value in Frank Gore’s subpar performance last week. The three running backs that set out the entire preseason all had bad games by their standards (Larry Johnson, Ladainian, and Gore)..
So week 2 will be telling, was Arizona really that good? or was Gore just rusty? I’m looking for all 3 backs to bounce back on sunday.
