Making the Correct Decision (Harrison or Smith)

Having great receivers will make all the difference in the world when it comes to the win/loss column and making that correct decision while two stud receivers are on the board will ultimately help you win your fantasy league. Chances are you will be faced with the dilemma of drafting either Marvin Harrison or Steve Smith and even though you cannot go wrong by drafting either player there are some minor differences and those differences will be enough reason to go with the better player playing in the better situation.

As we all know Marvin Harrison is an all-pro and a future Hall-of-Famer and there is no reason to believe that he will show any signs of slowing down this season. Most people believe Harrison has slowed a little bit, however, Harrison has never shown great speed but a consistency at getting open. With his work ethic, his consistent ability to get open, and the best QB in the league look for Harrison to have another great season. On the other hand, Harrison’s downside could be that the Colts acquired Anthony Gonzalez in this years draft and the emergence of Joseph Addai.

Many experts have Smith rated #1 overall at the WR position and there are multiple reasons why you would justify drafting Steve Smith ahead of Harrison. 1) The Panthers and Delhomme will rebound from their sub-par performance last season 2) Smith is younger and much more athletic than Harrison. 3) Smith now has a couple of threats opposite him and defenses will have to play close attention to them. On the other hand, who’s to say Delhomme and the Panthers will rebound and if they don’t you will see another average season out of Smith.

Sure I understand that Smith is younger, faster, quicker, stronger, and a tough match up for any defensive back. However, Harrison plays with the best offensive unit in the league and with his ability to outwit opposing defenses with his perfect route running ability and his uncanniness to find the endzone, Harrison is the obvious choice.

Who will you choose?
