Defense: Wins Championships!

July 20th, 2007 | by aaron |

Defense wins ball games and if you don’t have a defensive unit that records sacks, forces turnovers, and scores touchdowns, then you don’t have a winning fantasy franchise.

How many times have you drafted excellent skill position players, but failed to draft a dominant defense? This happens quite often in most fantasy drafts. Owners get caught up with skill positions, forget about the importance of defenses, then all of a sudden they are left with a below average unit.

There are not many dominant defenses in the league and when the opportunity to draft one arises you should immediately secure the position. In a twelve man league there is at least one productive defensive unit to accomodate each owner. Do not wait too long!

8. Philadelphia Eagles: Under Andy Reid this unit always finds a way to get it done and with the addition of Takeo Spikes they should be capable of stopping the run.

9. Chicago Bears: As much as Bears fans would like to dispute this, with the loss of Tank along with other in-house problems, this defense is not the same unit from 2006… Read more…

11. Pittsburgh Steelers: Not the same defensive unit under Cowher, but an entire franchise built on history and tradition remains in the top ten. Read more…

12. Tampa Bay Bucs: This defense will rebound from their lackluster performance from a season ago. With a couple of key players returning from injury, look for Tampa to return to their top form. Read more…

Special Mention:

Denver Broncos: Playing in a run oriented division if this unit does not find a way to put pressure on the QB then they’re in for a long season. Read more…
