Philadelphia Eagles
June 27th, 2007 | by aaron |With McNabb returning, a couple of key defensive acquisitions, and the new found confidence that Andy Reid has in his more balanced attack, the Eagles will once again be a top team in the NFC. That’s great for the fantasy owners who are willing to take a couple of risks.
Brian Westbrook: This is the position the Eagles will start with this season. After a slow beginning to his career, Westbrook finally had the opportunity to showcase his overall run/catch abilities. Not to take anything away from Jeff Garcia and his success last season, but without Westbrook these Eagles would’ve been in deep trouble. Look for another impressive season where Westbrook could very easily break the 2000 yard mark in both rushing and receiving. Definitely a #1 runner on any fantasy franchise and a high draft selection.
Donovan McNabb: First he had to prove that he could perform at the QB position. He did it! Now he has to prove that he can stay healthy. Just bad luck! Off to the best start in his entire NFL career in 2006, McNabb found himself on the sidelines with injuries that left fantasy owners sick. Fully recovered this season and ready to play, look for McNabb to pick up where he left off by posting career numbers. Definitely a starter on any fantasy franchise.
DEFENSE: Hopefully these Eagles have solved their linebacker problems with the addition of Takeo Spikes. If they don’t find a way to stop the run this season then this unit has absolutely no fantasy value. If they do, then they are no more than a bye week fill-in.
Reggie Brown: This is the year during most good receivers careers where they either “shxx or get off the pot”. I think this is the season for Brown to put up the numbers expected of him. He won’t produce the same numbers as some of the top #1 receivers produce, however, many people will pass on Brown. If this is the case do not wait too long to pull the trigger. Brown will be an exceptional #2 receiver for any fantasy owner and possibly the biggest sleeper in the draft.
L.J. Smith: Smith falls into the same category as the other TE’s outside of Gates, Gonzalez, and Winslow. If you have to field a TE, Smith is a quality selection but not until the later rounds.
Kevin Curtis: At best a bye week fill-in and that’s only if you have multiple players on break.
David Akers: Akers has been pretty consistent during his entire career and with ‘Philly’ remanining competitive all season, he is definitely capable of starting on a fantasy roster.
