Washington Redskins

When Joe Gibbs reappeared on the scene we all believed that he would redirect this Redskins franchise immediately and shortly return them to the glory days of the 80’s.

Neither of the two have happened as of yet and has left us all wondering two things; has the game passed Gibbs by, or do the Redskins lack the necessary talent to compete at the level Redskin fans have expected?

Here’s a quick look at the fantasy value of the Washington Redskins backfield.

Clinton Portis: Portis remains the #1 fantasy point producer on this franchise even after producing his worst season as a professional in 2006. However, will Portis return to form, and if he does, will he produce the same type of #’s that he has shown throughout his career where he’s averaged 11 td’s and over 1400 yards rushing.

I believe Portis will return to form, but the million dollar question is, am I willing to gamble on a player who may no longer be a fan favorite in his home stadium? Portis is definitely not worthy of a first-round selection and expect to see him on draft boards as a late second rounder or early third.

Jason Campbell: Campbell has all the tools to become a quality QB in this league and at some point I look for him to develop into a top fantasy point producer. However, I am not sure if that time is now. Campbell is a risk as a starting fantasy quarterback, but he could be a diamond in the rough down the stretch.

Ladell Betts: Last season Betts proved that he is another quality backup capable of carrying the load as a starter. He does not possess the true game breaking ability similar to Portis, however, Betts will be called upon to spell Portis and pickup tough yards.

Due to the vulnerability at the RB position Betts is one of the very few backups who is worthy of a late round draft selection.
