Maroney Tops AFC East

June 18th, 2007 | by aaron |

Now that I have concluded my fantasy analysis of the AFC, I will rate the top players from each division then move into top players from the entire conference.  From there I will then move forward by rating NFC teams and players.

In terms of fantasy production the AFC East could be one of the most prolific divisions on both sides of the ball in all of football.  I know how some owners salivate at the idea of drafting a plethora of runningbacks. Don’t be one of them. Drafting the best player available is actually the way to go when building a franchise. This is especially true in keeper leagues where you could have rights to a great player for several years to come. Not everybody will have the option of drafting a Tomlinson, Jackson, or Johnson, therefore it is imperative that you remain focused on drafting the best available option for every selection during your draft.

Here is a list of top fantasy producers from the AFC east division. My rankings are based on each skill position player who is worthy of a fantasy draft selection along with the value of team defenses, kickers and where they rate in terms of fantasy production for the 2007 season.

AFC EAST SKILL POSITION PLAYERS

1. (RB) Laurence Maroney- Tough selection #1 overall but based on his running style and the fact that he almost topped the 1,000 yard mark as a rookie, he now has the chance to showcase his overall ability and lead this division in fantasy points.

2. (RB) Ronnie Brown- Strong back and now with the help of a passing game, Brown will emerge as the top runner that we’ve all been waiting for.

3. (QB) Tom Brady- Brady is definitely the best quarterback option in this division and finally in a position to showcase his overall talent with All-Pro wideout Moss.

4. (WR) Randy Moss- It was difficult not putting Moss first, but I can’t rank or draft players with my heart. In my opinion, with Moss playing in a winning system he should once again be considered as one of the top wideouts in the game.

5. (RB) Thomas Jones- Sometimes the grass isn’t greener on the other side, however the Jet have prove their ability to run the ball for years. Jones is already a proven runner, therefore, worthy of being ranked my 5th best player in the AFC EAST.

6. (QB) Trent Green

7. (WR) Lee Evans

8. (QB) Chad Pennington

9. (RB) Marshawn Lynch

10 (QB) J.P. Losman

11 (WR) Chris Chambers

12 (WR) Laverneus Coles

DEFENSE (Based on fantasy statistical value)

1. New England

2. Miami

3. N.Y. Jets

4. Buffalo

Kickers

1. Mike Nugent

2. Jay Feeley

3. S. Gostkowski

4. Rian Lindell

I actually look for T. Jones to have a monster year. He has been running with a chip on his shoulder the last couple of years now he has to be pissed that the Bears traded him off after a couple solid seasons. He had to know it would come sometime but it still has to hurt.

This was a tough one, but all things being equal, Maroney is on a better team and will have more opportunities to accumulate points.
