Kansas City Chiefs
June 15th, 2007 | by aaron |This is one of those situations where you just don’t bother to question an NFL franchise. Who knows where this team is headed after losing Trent Green, not adding any stud receivers, and running Larry Johnson into the ground like the Oilers did Earl Campbell during his short career in the late 70’s. What I do know is the AFC is better, the west will not allow L.J to beat them the way he did last season, and they play against the NFC North where Minnesota shut down the run and the Bears played hard-nosed defense all season long. That’s eight games right there where Johnson, (the heart and soul of this team) will have his work cut out for him.
Larry Johnson: Here’s a situation where if I had the number two or three pick I would do everything in my power to trade it for the 6th overall pick for that owners second round pick (5th), then reclaim my draft position in the 3rd round. In other words, I would not want to be in the situation where I had to draft Johnson with any of the top 3-4 picks.
There is no question that Larry Johnson is a great back, however, I simply don’t trust the fact that Johnson will remain healthy after carrying the ball over 600 times in his last twenty-four games. At the end of the season if he has outperformed my 6th overall pick by a landslide, then I made a mistake. If not, I’m a genius! Johnson rushed for 788 yards (half of his yards in 6 games) and 6 td’s against division opponents last season and guaranteed the AFC west will not allow that to happen again this season. The one positive I see is if Johnson stays healthy all season, he faces Tennesse and Detroit during your fantasy playoffs weeks fifteen and sixteen.
Huard/Croyle: Huard played great last season in his eight starts but who knows who will takes snaps this season. This situation is a quarterback controversy waiting to happen and therefore not worthy of fantasy consideration.
Gonzalez: With everything being equal on the fantasy playing field, Gonzalez has the ability to make the difference on your fantasy roster all season long. Still at the top with Gates as the best tight-end in the game.
DEFENSE: This unit ranked right in the middle of the pack according to Aikman’s efficiency ratings and NFL total defense. Already an improved defense with Herm Edwards at the realm, and with the addition of Donnie Edwards, look for this unit to get show more improvement. Are they capable of winning games, I think not. But, they are worthy of a fantasy selection.
L. Parker/Kennison: Not worthy of an individual analysis, therefore, not worthy of a fantasy selection until after the 16th round.
