Know Yourself, Opponents, and Situation

After the ass-kickin blowout Keir handed me in game 2, it left me wondering how in the heck I managed to let him get Boozer and Duncan, the top two players in the fast paced, high scoring, Western Conference Finals. I truly believed that I just threw my money away by allowing him to have first pick and not implementing a snake draft format.

After taking that ass-kicking certain thoughts came to mind and I quickly began questioning my strategy.  However, last nights game between Utah and San Antonio immediately reminded of why I am a stud and why I drafted the players I did.

Firstly, I knew my opponent, I knew his draft tendencies and the type of players he would select during this Conference Finals. Keir’s personality is consistent with all fundamental guys and absolutely no flash. Not saying that fundamentals is bad, it’s just a characteristic that I know about Keir. (I predicted 5 out of 6 of Keir’s draft selections Therefore, I was able to pass on Deron Williams and draft him as a 10th overall pick.  Big!

Secondly, everyone must realize that when it comes to drafting a lineup and fielding a team, my ego is out of control. Therefore, I never worried that Keir had the first and third overall picks. If he picked Tim Duncan (which I knew he would) and I got Lebron (2nd overall), I wouldn’t be in too bad of shape if he did draft Carlos Boozer 3rd overall. I figured the Boozer/Duncan matched up would wash each others production, therefore, I wouldn’t concern myself with a productive output by the duo during the same game. I was wrong in game two where the matchup was historical and the two all-stars carried Keir for a combined total of 106 fantasy points. Alternatively, game 1 and game 3 have been a different story.

As it stands, I basically have home court advantage. I was able to steal game 1 when the majority of his players ( 4 out of 6) were playing on their home court. Detroit has the ability to play well on the road, which means I can pick up a tremendous amount of points from their leader Chauncey Billups and the backbone of the Pistons, Rasheed Wallace. For obvious reasons I have no worries that Lebron and Z will play well on their home court, the Cavs will win big and I will take a 2-1 series lead.

In summary, know yourself, your opponents, and the situation on a game-by-game basis.
